Beginner/Intermediate Oil Painting Class

The class will focus on Realism and cover the following topics; Draftsmanship as a foundation to a great painting
(accuracy, proportion and perspective); Mixing Colors (value, hue & chroma); Wet on Wet and Wet on Dry
techniques; Values (grayed or complimentary); Edges (lost and found); Glazing a technique that can save time or a
whole painting; using Warm and Cool tones to create depth; using Focus to crate depth; how photos lie, how grays
can brighten your work and more.  I believe that before you can create a truly great Impressionist, Contemporary or
Modern work you must grasp Realism.  Then select from it those elements and techniques within Realism that will
make your work in these other styles sing.  Students can work on a still life set up in the studio or a landscape from
a 8x10 in. photo they can bring.  There will be lectures, demonstrations and homework!  Our goal is to create one
high quality realistic work. Students will progress at their own pace.

Here are recommendations from some of my students:

“As one of the beginners in a class of intermediates and even one professional painter, I was always comfortable
with the pace and the level of instruction I received.  I really enjoyed all of the people in the class.  We had a
comfortable and easy rapport with one another and Mario.  The class was very enjoyable and something I looked
forward to each week.
And I love my finished painting!”  Karen Reichenbach

“These eight weeks of painting in oils have been an enormous learning experience. Your comprehensive way of
teaching, your generous sharing and teaching of so many techniques, building every week on what went before.
Above all thank you for forcing me to look, really look again and again.  I am a collagist, a fabric artist and I work
with mosaics, painting in oils was not a part of me since I was a student in the 1950's.
Thank you for making every Friday so special and rewarding.”  Shula Mustacchi

“I looked forward to your oil painting class every week, it is so much fun!  I appreciate
that you take the time to focus your attention to each and every one of your students
, guiding them according to their level of skill.  I think it’s wonderful that you provide
demonstrations as well as display examples of your work, so that we can clearly see
what we may hopefully one day achieve.  I’ve always wanted to take an art class but
was apprehensive and intimidated by the thought of it.  But your guidance has given
me the strength to believe in myself and the enthusiasm to go forward.
Thank you for being a thoughtful teacher.”  Toni Barnes                      Toni's first Oil>

“Mario Tucci is an extraordinary teacher.  He is calm and friendly,
technically knowledgeable, skillful, accepting, curious and intelligent.
He strikes a rare balance between the constructive, objective criticism
that helps a painter truly learn and the encouragement every painter
needs. He is able to address students of different skill levels in the
same class on an individual basis. He is both an exemplary teacher
and an artist to respect.”  Beth Stover       Beth's second Oil in my class>

“I have been taking private oil painting lessons
with Mario Tucci for close to a year.  With his
guidance, I have learned to paint a wide array of
subjects including  still life, landscapes, and
realistic portraits.  I have been shown the benefits
of using different types of brushes, and the
techniques for using them.  He is extremely
patient when giving advice and his experience is
reflected in his demonstrations. I can see a
definitive improvement in my painting skills and
knowledge, since I have been working with Mario.
During the past year, several of my paintings
were picked for various themed competitions and
exhibits.   Working with Mario would be a
tremendous experience for anyone wanting to
develop their skills and knowledge of painting.”
